Crafty Woman Wednesday – {Sew Cute Scrunchies!!}

Hello hello my little bloglets! It is Wednesday and the first of my new weekly post series called Crafty Woman Wednesday! Every Wednesday of the week I will be sharing some crafting fun with yall. There will be sewing, quilting, crocheting, knitting or just good ole paper crafts. I will also include kiddie crafts and kid-friendly crafting tips and tricks. So let’s get this series started!…

To keep in the spirit of this week’s theme – Tweens – today’s craft is a tutorial on how to make these Sew Cute Scrunchies!!scrunchies.png

Growing up a 90s girl, I LOVE me some cute hair scrunchies! And they of course like everything else are back in style. They are great for gals with long hair in the spring and summer months. This project is super easy! You can make them for yourself or the tween girl in your life. They are easy enough to make with your tween girl or even something she can make by herself and with friends. So let’s go over what all is needed for this project…

Gather your supplies and let’s do this! I’m going to be showing you two different sizes, large and small.

  1. To start, you need to iron and cut your fabric to size. For the larger scrunchie you want to cut a rectangle that measures 16″ by 4″ and for the small one, 12″ by 3″.adult16in.pngadult4in.pngchild12in.pngchild3in.png
  2. Next, you want to cut your elastic to size. For the large cut a piece 7″ long and for the small 5.5″ long.7inelastic.png5.5inelastic.png
  3. Now that you’re all cut up, it’s time to press. Fold your strip of fabric in half with the right sides together and press it with your iron.foldinhalf.png
  4. Next, you want to straight stitch along the long raw edge, leaving about an inch from each short end.seam.png
  5. Now, turn it right side out.turning.png
  6. Press! (I’m all about the pressing)rightsidesout.png
  7. For the finish, there are two ways you can do it, A or B. A shows more visible stitches but either you choose really has the same basic outcome. So for option A next you stick the safety pin through one end of the elastic like this:elasticpin.pngThen you simply thread the safety pin through the fabric tube you have created, making sure to keep hold of the other end of elastic and not pull it all the way through.blueelastic.pngFor option B the next step is to fold the tube so that the raw edged ends are together and clip or pin the touching ends.clipped.pngNow stitch a line where they meet to connect one side of them like this:closeupopening.pngThe tube will now look like this:opening.pngNow just thread the elastic with the safety pin through like for option A.
  8. Time to close up these scrunchies! Sew a zig zag stitch to attach the ends of the elastic together.(same for both options) For option A place the raw edges of one end of the tube inside the raw edges of the other end of the tube and zig zag stitch from top to bottom, including the elastic inside. (make sure it laid flat so as not to bunch inside) Option A scrunchie will look like this:bluescrunchie.pngFor option B, it’s just a tad more complicated. Take the raw end openings and fold them in on themselves so there are no more raw edges. Then, place one end inside the other end and top stitch across the top along with the seam you made when you turned it into a tube. This method does not touch the elastic and therefore gives you a tiny bit more stretch. But I promise it’s not much and both options turn out fine.

So there you have it!! This easy projects takes literally just minutes to complete so you can whip up a whole bunch of them. I think this would make a great activity for a girl’s slumber party! Just use plain fabric and add in fabric markers or paint and you’ve got yourself an adorable customizable party project for active little girls! Hope you liked this week’s first Crafty Woman Wednesday! Make sure to check out my blog next week to see what new crafting fun I have in store for you. If you do make some of these or especially if your little ones make some please share your pictures with me! I would love to see all your creativity!! Until next time my lil bloglets….

Mystery Tackle Box Review!

Ok so as mentioned in my last post, here is a review about a subscription box. My guy is going to be getting the Mystery Tackle Box every month because he’s catfishing crazy lol. We ordered a one-time box first just to check it out and see if it’s worth it or just a box of crap before paying for the subscription. Right off I want to say YES it is well worth the money.

The Mystery Tackle Box subscription is $15 a month, which is pretty cheap for anything this day and age. I amazoned everything in it and it is way cheaper to get the box instead of buy everything in it on your own. So here’s the unboxing pictures for you so you yourself can get an idea of what it comes with.

mtb8mtb9The first thing in your box is a card telling you “About Your Box.” It shows a list of everything included in your box along with a brief description and the retail price for the item. It also shares a website where you can learn how to properly use the items in the box if you are not familiar with them.

mtb2The second thing in the box is this little Dibble mini magazine.

mtb1You also get a Mystery Tackle Box sticker.

mtb10Included is a little scratch-off game where you can win prizes. (we did not win)

Now to the fishing goodies:

mtb3Magic Bait’s Strawberry Dough Bait 3OZ retailed at $4.95

mtb4Magic Bait’s Hog Wild Sponge Hooks 3Pack retailed at $3.00

mtb5Mudville Catmaster’s Dip Tubes 2Pack retailed at $1.99

mtb6Magic Products’ Dough Bait Hooks 3Pack retailed at $3.99

mtb7Tru-Turn’s Xstrong Forged Catfish Hooks 10Pack retailed at $2.49

mtb11Team Catfish’s Dead Red Blood Spray retailed at $5.49

So overall some pretty cool catfishing stuff and the box is a very reasonable price. We have already signed up for him to get them every month so I’ll definitely be posting if anything really awesome gets thrown in there.
